Rita J. Simon is a University Professor at American
University in Washington D.C.
She received her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University
of Chicago in 1957.
Professor Simon has been on the Faculty of the University
of Chicago and
the University of Illinois. In 1968, 1970, and 1974
she taught as a visiting Professor at Hebrew University.
Professor Simon is the author and editor of 60 books
on immigration, law, women’s issues, and transracial
and inter-country adoption. She has edited the American
Sociological Review, Justice Quarterly and is currently
editor of Gender Issues. In 1968 she received a Guggenheim
Fellowship. Professor Simon is President of Women’s
Freedom Network. In 2000 Rita J. Simon Established the
